Resurrection Rolls: Anytime after Palm Sunday (4/2)
It is best to make the palm crosses when the palms are fresh, but if you want to do this later on in the month you can create them with paper strips! Read Gospel. Mt 21:1-11 to remember why we have palms & place your cross in a special place in your room. Holy Week
The week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, Holy Week, is the most sacred time of year. During this special time, we enter into the Passion of Christ — his crucifixion, death and resurrection — through Masses and services. Our Lenten practices (prayer, fasting and almsgiving) are meant as preparation for this week so we can empathize with Jesus. The Triduum begins at dusk on Holy Thursday and continues through dusk on Easter Sunday. Because we cannot separate Jesus’ death from his resurrection, that the Triduum is really one celebration that lasts for three days. Each day has its unique qualities and different focuses. You are encouraged to participate in as many of the Holy Week services and practices you can.
Holy Thursday Mass: Thur 4/6, 7p at St. Vincent
This Mass is focused on the Last Supper- when Jesus instituted the Eucharist- and ends silently with Adoration.
Adoration: Thur 4/6, 8-9p at St. Vincent
Our faith has a tradition to engage in the devotion of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Holy Thursday. Many people like to make a pilgrimage to other churches for adoration. It is customary to pray an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be at each stop. Some churches with Adoration: St.Christopher, N. Chili after 8:30; St. Monica, Genesee St 8-9p; St. Boniface, Gregory St. 8-10p; St. John, Spencerport, 8p-12a; Sacred Heart Cathedral 8p-12a
Good Friday Service: Fri 4/7, 3p at St. Columba
Good Friday is not a Mass. It is a somber remembrance of Jesus’ crucifixion and death on the cross. It is a day of fasting and penance and a time to examine all the places in our lives where we fail to follow Christ and fall into sin.
Easter Vigil: Sat 4/8, 8p at St. Mary
The Easter Vigil is the high point of the liturgical year and is the great celebration of adult baptism and confirmation. The vigil begins in darkness (usually outside) and the long procession of candlelight that enlivens the church reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world who has conquered all darkness and death. This is Mass includes 3-7 readings to teach and remind us about our faith and its history.
Easter Sunday Mass: Sun 4/9, 9a at St. Columba
11a at St. Vincent
