Light of Christ Award

Honoring the first oath of the Cub Scout Promise, “Duty to God,” Churchville, NY, Pack 156 Wolf Cub Scouts Lawren Monahan and Robert Wilkinson received the prestigious “Light of Christ” award.

Presented at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday, April 12, 2014, The Light of Christ medal is awarded to Tiger and Wolf Cub Scouts who complete a series of steps designed to increase their knowledge, commitment and awareness of the Catholic Church and Holy Scriptures. The purpose of the work behind earning this emblem is to help the Cub Scout develop a personal relationship with Jesus, with hope that the Cub will come to see Jesus as a real person and his friend.

Bishop Salvatore Matano presented the awards at the Mass ceremony where other Scouts were recognized as well, praising the scouts for their dedication to God. He then blessed the boys, their families and Light of Christ medals, while congratulating the youngsters for their roles in the Scouting program. Reminiscing of his own youth-filled days as a Boy Scout, he encouraged them to continue strengthening and practicing their faith.
