Faith Formation Registration

Family Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, Confirmation, First Reconciliation, & First Eucharist

This year, we have made several changes to the structure and content layout of Faith Formation, all while keeping the overall structure more or less the same.

Instead of meeting once per month, we will now be meeting twice. There will also be a more focused approach each session- instead of 4 or 5 disparate topics, we will instead focus on one or two. That way we can get more in depth as well as avoid "information overload" that often comes with covering several different topics in one session.

K-7th Grade Faith Formation consists of two in-person meetings per month, as well as additional Pflaum Gospel Weeklies that are to be done each week. You will receive these at the first in-person meeting in September, so please be sure to attend! Each month, there will be two sessions offered. Two will be at St. Columba, with the other two either at St. Mary's in Scottsville or at St. Vincent de Paul. On the schedule you will notice that St. Mary's and St. Vincent's are "combined". This is in part due to the different conflicts with holidays and school breaks that we wish to avoid as much as possible. Please see below for the schedule for the 2026-2027 Faith Formation Year. If you have any questions, please feel free to send Luke an email: Luke.Nolan@dor.org.

Finally, a note on Mass. Not only is weekly Sunday (or Saturday evening) Mass attendance required, but it is also encouraged and expected. Mass itself is a large part not only of Faith Formation, but also an integral part to one's personal faith- even if it sometimes doesn't feel like it! The Eucharist, i.e. the Mass, is "the source and summit of the Christian life" (CCC 1324, LG 11). It's importance for Christian formation and practice is essential. It is where we not only hear God's Word in Sacred Scripture, but also where we encounter Him personally and intimately in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Without this encounter, without this spiritual nourishment, we cannot expect faith to blossom. It would be like neglecting to care for a garden and expecting flowers to bloom and for it to be free of weeds!
